A new healthcare tech company is coming to Sarajevo! 🚀

Take ownership of the data layer of a production healthcare SaaS platform as a Senior DB & Data Platform Engineer. You will work across SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud storage, data pipelines, migrations, backups, and data security, making sure the data is always safe, fast, and reliable.

In this product, data matters most, and losing it is not an option. This is a senior hands-on role where you become the go-to expert for everything data. It’s a broad role. Nobody expects you to know everything on day one, but you should be strong in a few areas and keen to learn the rest.

About the company

An international product company is opening its first engineering hub in Sarajevo, and it’s looking for the people who will build it from day one.

The company builds a modern healthcare SaaS platform that is already used every day by real care providers. It’s part of a large, well-established healthcare organization, and the platform runs on a modern cloud-native stack, with no legacy code. The data environment includes MongoDB (on Atlas) as the main database, plus PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, cloud object storage, and ETL pipelines on Google Cloud Platform.

The first hires will form the core of the Sarajevo team and help shape how it works. The company name will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Why should you apply?
  • Own the data platform behind a product that care organizations rely on every day
  • Work with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, and GCP
  • Build data practices like backup validation, anonymization, and access governance step by step
  • Work on a product with real impact: less paperwork for care workers means more time for the people they care for
  • Learn from people with long experience in the healthcare field
What will your day look like?

You will make sure the company’s databases and data systems are secure, reliable, fast, monitored, and backed up. You will report to the Engineering Lead and be their trusted data platform owner. You will also work closely with the Solution Architect, Software Engineers, DevOps, QA, Data & Analytics, Product, Release, and Delivery.
  • Own the setup, operation, security, performance, and reliability of databases and high-availability data systems
  • Manage object and file storage, including buckets, access control, and lifecycle management
  • Define data persistence practices across SQL, NoSQL, object storage, analytics storage, and integrations
  • Help engineers and architects choose the right data technologies, models, retrieval patterns, and integration approaches
  • Design, review, and optimize database models for performance, scalability, security, and data quality
  • Own backup, recovery, restore validation, retention, and disaster recovery for critical data
  • Create, review, and automate database migration scripts and database release practices
  • Run data integration workflows, ETL pipelines, and data movement between systems, analytics platforms, and external integrations
  • Build anonymization and pseudonymization procedures for testing, reporting, analysis, and regulatory needs
  • Manage data access rights, database roles, and controlled, auditable production data handling
  • Analyze existing databases for bottlenecks, security risks, modeling issues, and data quality problems
  • Work with DevOps on infrastructure as code, automation, monitoring, alerting, and secrets management
  • Support Engineering and QA with test data strategy, data refreshes, anonymized datasets, and data validation
  • Give clear input on data risks, migration impacts, and release readiness
  • Use AI-assisted tools for database analysis, script generation, documentation, and troubleshooting
You are the right candidate if you...
  • Have around 10 years of experience in database engineering, database operations, data engineering, or data platform engineering (depth matters more than the exact number)
  • Have strong hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB. Deep expertise in one or two, plus a willingness to learn the rest, is what counts
  • Have experience with managed cloud databases and storage, ideally on GCP, while AWS or Azure experience is also relevant
  • Have run high-availability production databases, including backups, recovery, and disaster recovery
  • Have written database migration scripts and supported automated database releases
  • Have built and run ETL pipelines and data integration workflows
  • Have managed data access rights, database roles, and production data procedures
  • Understand microservices, event-driven architecture, APIs, asynchronous messaging, and distributed systems
  • Have worked in Agile teams and with distributed teams across multiple locations
  • Can explain data risks and trade-offs clearly, turn problems into clear action plans, guide engineers, and raise data engineering standards
  • Speak fluent English
  • Experience with healthcare or regulated SaaS, GDPR and anonymization, BigQuery and data warehousing, improving messy data operations, Jira, Confluence or Bitbucket, and AI tools like GitHub Copilot is a strong plus
