Hello to the Cognitive revolution! The why what, and when?

As the connection between us and the virtual world deepens, the essence of human-machine interaction shifts from industrial and mechanical to sophisticated and intelligent areas. As we surely lay foundations of a cognitive revolution led by AI systems and robotics, we cannot help but wonder what skills will be in demand? How will the future workplace look like?  What is left for us to do?

The thing is that we know machines can replace our hands quite efficiently, but what happens when they step in and power up our intellect?

The infamous what?

As we are marching towards an era of the cognitive revolution, we must think of the impact automatization has on the work that is left to do after canceling out repetitive and manual tasks from our to-do lists. Once again, we appear to be redefining work by focusing on problem-solving, analytics and human relationships management, while avoiding administrative and routine tasks. This job enrichment is very much needed, but along with it, the future unfolds complex service palette and products to develop. We are talking about the data-driven transformation of work focused on AI, robotics, and cybersecurity.

The intriguing WHO?

Following the line of reasoning from the previous paragraph these are the jobs we can expect to blossom in the garden of upcoming tech:

  • AI specialists will enforceability to process large chunks of information and draw insightful conclusions faster than ever.
  • Cybersecurity experts will rise to new challenges of protecting enterprises from various threats and scams.
  • Privacy officers will level up the game of GDPR and user data protection.
  • Robotics engineers and specialists will make sure robots are smart and precise, stepping in when design, improvement, and repair is needed.

The mysterious WHERE?

The future of the workplace screams excitement. With the rise of the Gig economy, we can expect to work on short-term project-based contracts acquiring experience in a vast variety of areas. This brings more flexibility, dynamics, and choices to make. Along with that, we can enjoy the perks of virtual coworking spaces and digital collaboration.

Let’s crack some numbers!

LinkedIn Emerging Jobs Report confirms some of our predictions for the future of work. The report summarized workforce structure and changes from all LinkedIn members who have held a full-time position within 17 countries from 4 different continents, during the past five years.

Here is a brief summery of the main findings:

As expected, AI specialists and Robotics engineers are thriving on the job markets in most countries from the sample. This situation is pretty much enforced by the urge to develop self-driving cars. Accordingly, a handy tip for recruiters is a fact that the top three previous jobs held by AI specialists are software engineers, data scientists, and research assistants.

Lastly, not every of the most popular jobs on the list was purely tech related. Hence, customer success specialist was one of the three fastest-growing jobs in four countries. This finding is not that surprising if we think of market diversity in the means of economic development. Top three previous jobs held by customer success specialists were account manager, account executive, and project manager.
