What is Being a Recruiter Like: A Day in the Life of a Recruiter

what does a recruiter do day to day

People often say that no job is fun. Or, at least, that no job is fun all the time. Here at Popcorn Recruiters, we strongly disagree. Every day in the life of Popcorn Recruiters is eventful.

Being a recruiter does require hard work and responsibility. But, it pays off because what we do is fulfilling, energizing, rewarding, and – the best part of all – unpredictable.

When you become a recruiter, you can say goodbye to a mind-numbing daily routine. Instead of doing the same, repetitive tasks day in and day out, recruiters get to enjoy variety in their work. Each candidate comes with their own life story and becomes an exciting addition to a recruiter’s professional network. Each client is a different experience. Each open role requires different tactics to fill.

Sounds intriguing? If you’re wondering what does a recruiter do day to day, keep reading!

Stalking Candidates on Social Media

Even though some candidates might find it slightly uncomfortable or even annoying, stalking is practically in every recruiter’s job remit. Recruiters use social media to gather information and screen the most potential candidates that might be a good fit for a certain position. LinkedIn is the most frequently used social media network to source candidates, however, Facebook, Twitter, and even Instagram are also good options.

In addition to sourcing, LinkedIn is an excellent way for recruiters to back-check a candidate’s work history. If roles that are nowhere to be found on LinkedIn are appearing on a candidate’s CV, this is almost always a red flag. Candidates will often say things in CVs that they wouldn’t put on a public LinkedIn profile, mostly because they are not entirely accurate. For that reason, social media stalking is an inevitable part of what does a recruiter do day to day.

Convincing People You Actually Want to Help Them

Finding a job can be very challenging. Candidates often tend to be skeptical when recruiters contact them, offering them an opportunity to get hired or switch careers. After all, with so many unemployed people searching for jobs, it may seem unbelievable to have a job come to you. That is why recruiters spend a significant amount of their day explaining to candidates that they actually want to help them.

A good recruiter always wants to ensure the best experience for their candidates during the application and interview process. So, the next time a recruiter contacts you don’t just disregard their message. They are actually willing to help you land your first job or take your career to the next level.

Searching for Your Next Match Made in Heaven

The most rewarding part of being a recruiter is helping people find their dream job and watching them thrive in it. Recruiting today’s generation of talent can be compared to courtship and the recruiters take on the roles of matchmakers.

Savvy recruiters do more than just compare the abilities, experience, and qualifications of their candidates. They engage each one of them, communicate with them and learn about them. Only then are recruiters able to forge a rewarding relationship between the talent and clients.
