  • Don’t go overboard with the formatting. Avoid using tables and graphics and don’t go for fancy, complicated fonts.
  • Always include keywords. Scan the job description and search for words and phrases that are repeated frequently. These can be skills, experiences, and previous job positions. Then make sure to include some of them in your resume.
  • Use standard headings for different sections. Less is more when it comes to resumes. It is recommended to use simple headings such as “Education” or “Experience.”

4. Your cover letter isn’t effective.

You have the right qualifications. You tailored your resume for the position, formatted it properly, and included the right keywords. But, the company still hasn’t invited you for the interview.

Then the only thing that could be off is your cover letter. You can use this opportunity to show that you’ve done research about the company and convey how passionate you are about the role.

9. You’re not passing the technical screen.

A technical test is a preliminary interview that gives the employer a chance to find out if you have what it takes to do the job. Technical screens can be tricky, so in order to pass them, you need to prepare properly.

Review the job description and find out if the company plans to test your technical skills. If they do, then brush up on all necessary tools and technologies beforehand. There’s no shortcut here. Find a relevant book or course and get to studying.

10. You don’t stand out from other applicants.
